Why Ice-Breaking

Every experience has to start, and people aren't arriving all at the same moment. Some comes earlier and some—later. For the former, it would be very boring just to stand and wait until the very last attendee arrives.

In the real world, people engage with light social activities designed not only to consume the waiting time but also to break the ice between participants who were not introduced to each other.

This module contains carefully crafted Artifacts and gestures which help to solve these tasks.

Cocktail Glasses

Cocktail Glasses is a set of six artifacts which can be grabbed, hold, shared, and put back down. The glasses are differently shaped providing people with ‘drinks’ of their choice.

While holding a glass, a person can toast or cheer and then clink the glasses with someone else. A special sound and video effects are playing, enticing people to clink more and—as a result—start talking.

Glasses also can be sipped from, with contents gradually reduced. Empty glasses are automatically refilled after a short period of time.

Tea and Coffee

For more business-like experience, non-alcoholic beverages are provided as well.

There is a cup of tea, a cup of black coffee, and a tall cup with latte.

Mirror

Mirror is a resizable artifact which can be placed with Decorator Tool.

Mirror displays only nearby avatars and objects; no landscape is displayed — it allows for sharp avatar images. Yet the background of the mirror is filled with a blurred photo of the landscape to provide similar atmosphere.

Boxing Gloves

Boxing Gloves are two pairs (red and blue) of boxing gloves, where as each glove is a handheld artifact.

When a person is wearing at least one glove, she is considered as participant in the boxing, and can be ‘attacked’ by other participants. When a red glove touches the head or the torso of someone from the blue team, fireworks spark. Gloves themselves can be used to block opponent’s blow.

Hands-in Gesture

Many real life workshops and similar group experiences are ended with a final act: when everyone gathers around in a small circle and put their hands in. Then they chant and put their hands up all at once.

Hands-in Gesture not only replicate this pattern, but also makes it much more exciting and magical. Once three or more people put their (free) hands together, an energy ball starts to grow between them. And in the moment of release, this ball becomes a series of large fireworks—bigger the ball, more fireworks explode.
